Mandatory Compostability by 12 February 2028

The PPWR prioritises reuse and
recycling over composting. Mandatory
Permeable tea, coffee or other beverage bags or any
single-use, flexible packaging that is used and thrown away
together with the drink contents
compostability is limited to packaging
where clean separation from organic
residues is difficult or uneconomical
and would contaminate other material
Sticky labels attached to fruit and vegetables
streams.

Very lightweight plastic carrier bags (as defined in Directive
(EU) 2015/720)
All other biodegradable packaging
materials must be recyclable, so the
recyclability of other waste streams is
not affected.
